Lately I've been playing around with some mixed media art. So when I ran across this blog post http://www.clothpaperscissors.com/blogs/jenn/archive/2011/12/07/free-art-in-nyc-be-a-part-of-it.aspx, I couldn't resist making a couple of pieces to send. An art exhibit on the street in NYC, and people passing by will be given a free piece of art. How cool is that? I just wish I could be there to experience it. The only rules were about the size of the finished pieces. I love it when there are no rules, don't you??? Anywho, here are my contributions. The first one, "I am an American Soldier," is a collage of some of my patriotic photos. The second one, "Wild Abandon," was inspired by that quote, which I love.

Mini-Session FAQ's

What is a Mini-Session?
A mini-session is like a regular photo session, only.....mini. It's a short version of a basic photo session without the bells and whistles like clothing changes, props, etc. Just a few shots to give you a few current photos for Christmas cards, gifts, or just an update from the ones you had taken years ago....you know, the ones with the great retro look....when certain family members had that great big hair.....and when others still had hair. Mini-sessions are also great for the guys in your family who may be a little camera-resistant. They only last 20 minutes!

Where are these Mini-Sessions?
Sessions will be held at my outdoor studio near Edna, Ks. I will email directions to you when you book your session.

How many people can be in our group for a Mini- Session?
You may have from one to four people. If you have a larger group, I'd be happy to visit with you about booking a regular session.

Can we bring our own props or pets to a Mini-Session?
Absolutely. I like to make your photos as personal as possible, so feel free to bring items that represent your interests, such as musical instruments, etc. Just keep in mind that sessions are limited to 20 minutes, so pets should be well-behaved and cooperative.

How to I schedule a Mini-Session?
Mini-Sessions are booked on a first come, first served basis. Simply select your desired time from the list above and email me. Within 24 hours I will send you the details and collect your session fee. I must receive your session fee within 7 days to hold your spot.

What if I have to cancel my session?
Session fees are not refundable, except in the event that I have to cancel the session. They are transferable, however. This means that you may let someone else take your spot if you have to cancel. Just make sure to contact me and let me know.

How do I choose the images for my package?
I will notify you when I have completed basic editing of your photos. Your images will be published in a password protected, online gallery at http://www.loustinephotography.com/ for ONE WEEK. You must make your selections before your gallery expires. Sample holiday cards will also be displayed in your online gallery. You are welcome to share your gallery with family and friends if you like.

Can I purchase other items besides my package?
Of course! Not only can you purchase other items, but you may do so at a 10% discount off regular prices! This includes holiday cards, prints in all sizes, and gallery wrapped canvases. These items will be available for purchase through the shopping cart in your online gallery. You will be given a discount code at the time of your session.

Yesterday was a great day out exploring and shooting for fun with my dear friend Kim. We headed to Joplin to check out Grand Falls, which is on Shoal Creek. It is a beautiful location, which was turned into a winter wonderland.

That is my favorite photography quote, because I feel that's exactly what happens. One look at a photo can take us right back to the very moment it was snapped or allow us to imagine what it was like to be there. Photographs tell us a story. They inspire us. They bring beauty to our homes and our lives. They keep our memories alive.

This video does a beautiful job of describing exactly that. It is sponsored by Kodak, and is about 5 minutes long, but it is well worth the time to watch it. Seniors are great! I haven't photographed very many senior guys this year, so this was lots of fun. And he was a great subject - he takes orders really well. ;-)

Here's another one of those kids....the ones that get all grown up when you aren't paying attention. I've known this one since birth, or even before if that's possible. It's so hard to believe this tall, handsome cowboy is that same little blonde blue-eyed baby boy. It was such a privilege to be able to do his senior pictures! Even if that means he's almost a grown-up now.

Remembering 9-11

It was one of those defining moments that forever changes the way you view the world. Not since Pearl Harbor had we been attacked on our home soil, and the magnitude of the loss is still hard to believe after all these years. We'll never forget the way we felt that day; the shock and disbelief that something like this could happen here, in our beloved United States; the horror as we watched it happen right before our eyes; the fear as we wondered what might happen next; the unbelievable sadness as we pondered the lives lost and families devastated. There was, and still is, pride and admiration for all the heroes, who did what heroes do - they unselfishly did whatever needed to be done, many sacrificing their own lives to try and save others. To all the heroes - past, present, and future - who are fighting the good fight, and to their loved ones - I say thank you, and God bless you.

How to Have a Tea Party

This is another one from Eureka Springs. This rock has been there as long as we've been going - about 15 years. It's in a little garden area, and I assume was placed there as a memorial to someone who passed away. It says "God's little miracles are everywhere around us." I think it is a nice reminder to take notice of and appreciate all those little miracles.

Last month when my sister and I went to Eureka Springs for the Worldwide Photowalk, we took a different route than our usual. We stopped in Exeter, MO for a bite to eat at a yummy Mexican restaurant, strolled through a flea market (where I bought a very cool brass candleabra) and of course, I snapped a few pics. Our dad was a Standard Oil dealer for a big part of my childhood, so this old sign naturally reminded me of him. You don't find many of these anymore.

This has to be one of my favorite sessions ever. I know, I always say that. But this little one was SO much fun! We had a tea party and blew bubbles, and swam and played with rubber duckies and made monster faces and then some. She was so animated and expressive. I just love all the different expressions on that cute little face!

When I first started a blog I wasn't doing photography as a business, so all the photos I shared were just for fun. As my business and my life have become busier, I've gotten away from that. I don't have as much time to shoot for fun, and I don't usually take time to share many of those photos. I miss that, so I've decided to make a regular effort to do more of it. Every Monday I'll try to post something that isn't business related - just random things that I've photographed. Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photowalk

Last weekend was a worldwide event in which groups of photographers of all levels got together in cities all across the world to spend some quality time just making pictures. My sister and I went to the one that was held in Eureka Springs, AR (which also happens to be our favorite place!). Eureka Springs is an artsy little community, and one of the things I love the most are the street musicians and artists. Here are a few of my favorite photos from the trip.

I love seniors! And Miss Heather was no exception. She is just a doll! And what a trooper. She waded through weeds and sat in them, and probably ended up with a ton of chiggers, but she kept smiling, never complained, and was up for anything I suggested. And her sidekick was a great assistant! I really had a great time with both of them.

I was so excited to get to photograph this little fella again! And even more tickled to include such a sweet little baby girl. One word sums up the nature of a 2-year old: independent! That's the way they're supposed to be. It's all part of the growing up process, although it makes for a very busy photo shoot. Mommies usually get stressed out when their 2-year old doesn't take direction, and when they frequently say the "N" word. But it's all good. When I go for a toddler session, I expect that, and it doesn't stress me out at all. It's all part of the fun...for me. (she says with a wink.)

A Happy Story

Once upon a time there was a little boy and a little girl. They both had Mrs. Stine for their 3rd grade teacher. The little boy and girl grew up and fell in love, had an adorable little boy, and are getting married. Mrs. Stine grew older and became a photographer, and was thrilled to get to photograph them and to see their beautiful family, which she truly hopes will live happily ever after.

Josie is our firstborn colt - the first one ever born and raised here by us. Her mother was the beautiful blue-eyed Bella mare, who is no longer with us. She's my baby, and Farmer Stine knows he can never sell her. Now she's a momma. So, we have our first grandcolt! Josie went away to driving camp last summer, to learn how to pull wagons and such, and apparently learned a few other things while she was there. Meet....Josie's Shame.

Mary Ann is my oldest friend. We've been friends literally all our lives. Our parents were friends when we were kids, and somewhere there is a photo of us together when we were just infants. Wow, what a trooper she was. It was freezing outside, but she was great! I had such a great time hanging out with her and her family. Induction Ceremony

Today at the rodeo at Ft. Scott they held a small induction ceremony for the latest group of new recruits. The official swearing in took place a few weeks ago in KC, but this was a very nice way to honor these young people who have sworn to protect our country. Needless to say, it was kind of emotional for a mom. Especially when I looked over and saw him saluting to the national anthem. Wow. That was a powerful moment for me. At the end of the ceremony a moment of silence was shared for the victims of the shootings at Ft. Hood and their families, followed by "Amazing Grace" playing on bagpipes. Something about that always gets to me, just like hearing "Taps."

Shelby's Ring of Fire

I love it when a plan comes together! Shelby had this idea..... but it took a little planning to get it all figured out, and then we had to wait until the weather got a little cooler to try it. Standing in a ring of fire when it's 100 degrees outside is not cool (pardon the pun!). But tonight we pulled it off! Thanks to her dad for making it possible.

How does it happen? One day they're cute little toddlers and the next thing you know, they're turning sixteen. Looking at these puts a big ole lump in my throat, cause I can not believe she has turned into this beautiful young lady. This shoot was a very special treat for me because this family is so special to us. We combined Delisa's sweet sixteen shoot with some family shots. It was a blast, and we laughed SO hard! I love you guys!!

Country Girl

You know you're a country girl when you want your Sweet Sixteen pictures taken with your show steer. I love that! This isn't just any steer though, she won him in the Calf Scramble at the American Royal last year, so he's pretty special. He's going back to show there next week, so good luck!!
