This little beauty is loving referred to by our family as "The Bathing Beauty." She belonged to our Grandma Addis, and was passed down to Dad. Throughout my childhood she held a place of honor on the fireplace in Mom and Dad's living room. When he passed away, the legacy continued. Now she belongs to Jana and I. I guess you could say we have joint custody. We take turns keeping her, although she isn't quite so prominently displayed in either of our homes. In fact, I think she spent the last several years in Jana's garage. You never know when or how she will make her next appearance. The first time she came to live with me she was delivered to me at school with a balloon bouquet attached, for my birthday. Later she was shipped to Jana via UPS. She got a few bumps and bruises on that trip. And now she is back in my possession. She was lovingly wrapped and under the Christmas tree. It had been so long that I had almost forgotten about her, so needless to say, I was quite surprised. Maybe one day she'll return to Jana.....or maybe not. I may just keep her. She makes me smile.

Oh how fun! What a great idea to pass it back and forth!
ReplyDeleteLOL When I first saw it it reminded me of the leg lamp on A Christmas Story! Fragilee! LOL
ReplyDeleteThen, I read the story and it reminded me of that e-mail that went around about the mother and daughter that did that pass back and forth of an ugly yellow sweatshirt. (The mother even stuck it between the mattresses to see how long it took the daughter to find it.) I loved that story! You are lucky to have such a fun "sister" relationship in which you can share this fun! :-) Pass it back and let us know what you do!!!!!
Wow...this is so great. i love these little things that get passed down like this. They are truly family treasures.
ReplyDeleteHow fun, we do the same thing with my inlaws, except it's a sombrero!
ReplyDeleteThat is so neat. What a great story. My dads girlfriends family has a painting they call goat boy. It get handed down and passed around for birthdays, wedding and such. Great shot and I love the texture!

Aww, I love quirky stuff like this! I have an "ugly" Christmas ornament that has been in the familiy FOREVER- I think my great-grandmother's mother made it.
ReplyDeleteThis is cool. I love how you all share it!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to have a treasure to share! She looks like a real conversation starter.
ReplyDeleteI love it--it's like your own family version of Flat Stanley.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool heirloom! I like that its so different.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling this little statue is going to log more frequent flier miles in her "lifetime" than any of you! TFS!
